As we enter the final stretch before the Halloween festivities, here’s your reminder not to be racist and offensive as hell with your costumes and that painting yourself brown will definitely and rightfully be considered blackface. Doing so anyway does not mean that you are sincerely sorry and didn’t mean to offend anyone.

Unavailable and dumb costumes include caricatures of:

-Caitlyn Jenner and other transgender role models ****IMPORTANT
-LGBTQ culture
-Physical disability (avoid Christopher Reeves, Michael J Fox with Parkinson’s, and basically any caricature of horrific illness)
-Native Americans
-Any Hispanic or Latino culture
-Black celebrities (and non-celebrities of course, but the larger than life nature of certain black celebrities, i.e. Nicki Minaj and Kanye West, does not license you to paint your damn self brown and stuff your pants with pillows)
-Indian culture
-Muslim culture
-Hell, all cultures in the Middle East, just leave them alone
-Basically any religious figureheads (bloody Jesuses are particularly terrible, go home)
-Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and other Asian cultures
-Poverty
-Mental illness (cRAzY escaped psyche ward patient is a hard no, I don’t even need to explain “Anna Rexia”)
-Representations of recent painful events are in poor taste but up for heavy interpretation, just don’t be a turd.

If this list seems too long for you (there’s even a bunch I’m probably leaving out), you are very seriously not thinking hard enough.
